So when I have Excel 2011 for Mac open on my MacBook Air (running OS 10.12.6 Sierra) and then shut the cover because I have to go to another room (for example), it becomes unresponsive. I reopen my MacBook's cover, and Excel is frozen. Clicking on the dock icon, I get the 'application is not responding' message. I then need to force quit. When I reopen Excel, it restores what I was working on, to a point (depending on the timing), but I do lose recent edits, and sometimes have to rename or see as/replace multiple documents and it's a pain. Anyone familiar with this challenge and/or have any ideas for a fix?

Install the updates. After, in any Office application go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app.
